Melania Mazzucco

Melania G. Mazzucco, born in Rome in 1966, is a novelist, essayist, and screenwriter. She made her debut with Il bacio della Medusa (1996), followed by Lei così amata (2000) and Vita (2003), which won the Strega Prize. Among her more recent works are L’architettrice (2019), Self-Portrait. Il museo del mondo delle donne (2022), and Silenzio. Le sette vite di Diana Karenne (2024), a novel that reconstructs the enigmatic figure of silent film star Diana Karenne through seven narratives exploring her many identities. Translated into over twenty languages, Mazzucco’s writing weaves together memory, identity, and art with refined prose and complex narrative structures. She contributes regularly to Italian and international publications, including la Repubblica, Il Sole 24 Ore, and The New York Times.
