
Benjamin Taylor, born in 1952, is an American writer, critic, and university professor. He debuted with the novel Tales Out of School (1995), followed by The Book of Getting Even (2008). He is the author of the memoir The Hue and Cry at Our House (2017), winner of the Los Angeles Times – Christopher Isherwood Prize, and the literary portrait Here We Are: My Friendship with Philip Roth (2020). He has written biographies and essays on Marcel Proust, Saul Bellow, and Willa Cather (Chasing Bright Medusas, 2023). He edited critical editions for the Library of America and has taught creative writing at institutions such as The New School and Columbia University. He is a board member of the Guggenheim Foundation and PEN America.
