Maurizio de Giovanni

Maurizio de Giovanni was born in Naples in 1958. He is a novelist, screenwriter, playwright and television writer. He lives and works in Naples. He made his debut with the character of Commissario Ricciardi, the protagonist of a series of novels set in Naples in the 1930s, including Il senso del dolore, La condanna del sangue, Il posto di ognuno, Il giorno dei morti, Vipera, In fondo al tuo cuore, Anime di vetro, Serenata senza nome, Rondini d’inverno, Il purgatorio dell’angelo, Il pianto dell’alba, L’ultimo passo di tango and Volver. With Il metodo del Coccodrillo, he introduced the character of Inspector Giuseppe Lojacono, who later became part of the Bastardi di Pizzofalcone series, published by Einaudi. His work also includes the series dedicated to Sara Morozzi, the Mina Settembre books, the I Guardiani cycle, stand-alone novels, short stories, plays and screenplays.
His books have inspired the television series I Bastardi di Pizzofalcone, Il commissario Ricciardi and Mina Settembre. His most recent work is Figli – per i Bastardi di Pizzofalcone, published by Einaudi in 2026.
