Nicola Gardini

Nicola Gardini, born in 1965, is a writer, poet, essayist, Latinist, translator and painter. He teaches Italian and Comparative Literature at the University of Oxford. He has published novels, poetry collections, literary essays, autobiographical works and translations, while also pursuing a career in painting.
In 2012 he won the Premio Viareggio-Rèpaci with Le parole perdute di Amelia Lynd. His books include La vita non vissuta, Nicolas, Viva il latino, Con Ovidio, Viva il greco, Io sono salute, Il più bel romanzo del mondo. L’Odissea raccontata da Nicola Gardini and Eco in una casa vuota. Dire e ascoltare il dolore. He has also edited editions of ancient and modern classics, including Catullus, Marcus Aurelius, Ted Hughes and Emily Dickinson. His most recent works include Eco in una casa vuota, published by Aboca in 2025, and Daddy, presented in 2026.
