Francesco Vezzoli
One of the most internationally acclaimed contemporary Italian artists. Since the beginning of his career, he used different media and techniques, among which embroidery, employed to knit golden or bloody tears on portraits of big and small screen pop icons. His wide artistic vision made him experiment with videos, short films, phantom TV shows, or site-specific performances dedicated to personality like Gioacchino Rossini, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luigi Pirandello, and Salvador Dalí – featuring superstars like Catherine Deneuve, Cate Blanchett, and Lady Gaga. He was invited at the Venice Biennale main exhibition in 2001 and 2005. In 2007 was chosen, together with Giuseppe Penone, to represent Italy at Padiglione Italia. His works were exhibited in several Italian and international institutions, such as Jeu de Paume in Paris, France, Castello di Rivoli in Turin, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and MoMa PS1, in New York, Tate Modern in London, Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, MOCA in Los Angeles, and the Prada Foundation in Milan.
