Born in 1958 in Naples, where he still lives and works. In 2005 he made his debut in literature by winning a literary competition dedicated to newcomer crime writers with a story based on the character of the Commissioner Ricciardi, set in Naples in the thirties. The character inspired a series of novels that includes I Will Have Vengeance (2007), Blood Curse: The Springtime of Commissario Ricciardi (2009), Everyone in Their Place - The Summer of Commissario Ricciardi (2009), The Day of the Dead: The Autumn of Commissario Ricciardi (2010), By My Hand (2011), Viper (Selection Bancarella Award 2013) and The Bottom of Your Heart (2014). In 2012 he published Crocodile (Noir World) (Scerbanenco Award), where Inspector Lojacono appeared, a character among the protagonists of the series dei Bastardi di Pizzofalcone (2013), set in contemporary Naples, which includes also Buio (2013), Gelo (2014) and Il resto della settimana (2015). His books have been translated in France, Germany, England, Spain, Russia, Denmark and the United States. De Giovanni is also the author of short stories on the theme of his city’s football team, of which he is a visceral fan, and theatrical works.
