Founder of the Falso Movimento group and Teatri Uniti, Martone is a director and screenwriter who has reached maturity thanks to the theatre. In fact he experienced different forms of expression arriving at his feature film debut with Morte di un matematico napoletano (1992). The consecration as a director came in 1995 with L'amore molesto, based on the novel by Elena Ferrante which won the David di Donatello award. Among the other films: L'odore del sangue (2004), adapted from the novel by G. Parise; the documentary Caravaggio, l'ultimo tempo (2004); Noi credevamo (2010, David di Donatello for Best Movie in 2011); Il giovane favoloso (2014), presented at the Venice Film Festival. A former director of the Teatro Stabile di Roma (1998-2000), in recent years has also dedicated himself to staging of numerous operas.
