Director, screenwriter and author, Cristina is the daughter of the great director Luigi Comencini. She made her debut in the early eighties as a co-writer on some television productions before her directing debut in 1988 with the film Zoo (Globo d’oro for best debut film). After writing the screenplay Buon Natale... buon anno (1989) she directed I divertimenti della vita privata (1990), La fine è nota (1992, inspired by the novel End is Known by Geoffrey Holliday Hall, Globo d’oro for best film), Follow Your Heart (1996, from the best seller by Susanna Tamaro), The Best Day of My Life (2002, Globo d’oro and Nastro d’argento for best screenplay) and The Beast in the Heart (2005), nominated in 2006 for the Best Foreign Language Film category in the Academy Awards, Bianco e Nero (2008); La donna della mia vita (2010); Latin Lover (2015). Widely acclaimed novelist, she has received numerous literary prizes and among her books are Passione di famiglia (1994), Il cappotto del turco (1997), Matrioska (2002), The Beast in the Heart (2004), L'illusione del bene (2007), When the Night (2009), which in 2011 was made into the motion picture film; Lucy (2013); Voi non la conoscete (2014). In recent years she has approached play-writing: among which, Due partite, a two-act comedy, staged in 2006 in Rome and then taken on tour with success throughout Italy, Est Ovest (2009) and La scena (2013).
