Her first book, White Teeth (2000), written when she was only twenty-five years old, immediately became an international case, for the intensity of the characters, the refined style, the reflection on the contrasts of different cultures and traditions, as well as the ability to superimpose autobiographical universal themes. After The Autograph Man (2002), somewhat underrated by the critics, the third novel, On Beauty (2005), winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction, emphasizes the focus on racial and cultural differences, finding its inspiration in books by E.M. Forster. NW (2012) is set in Kilburn, an area in the north west of London, the title being a reference to the local postcode NW6. The Embassy of Cambodia, first appeared in «The New Yorker» in February of 2013, has been published as an ebook, audio book read by Smith herself and handy, pocket-sized hardback. Zadie Smith teaches Fiction at New York University.
