While preparing this edition of Le Conversazioni, I discovered that the term politically correct can be traced back to 1793, the year in which James Wilson, one of the signers of the American Constitution, and one of the first Supreme Court Justices, expressed himself in this way: “The “United States”, instead of the ‘People of the United States,” is the toast given. This is not politically correct.”
